Setting new standards in Belize for sustainability.
In a country as special as Belize, it’s critical that development be managed with tremendous respect for the surrounding splendor of nature. The developers of Ara Macao have invested over three years working in partnership with environmental groups, locals and the Department of Environment of Belize, going the extra mile to ensure their development surpasses every guideline. In fact, the Department of Environment is utilizing the practices of Ara Macao to revise their standards for future developments.
The development will include the following features:
- Natural water from aquifers found on the land.
- A nature preserve to raise scarlet macaws, which are an endangered species, to be let into their natural habitat.
- Ara Macao Aquifer
- Sustainable, eco-friendly, residential community
- Commercial development to support residential development and neighboring communities.
- Shoreline protection.
- Enhancement of the environment including but not limited to: protection and maintenance of the littoral forest; designating a nature preserve, construction of artificial reefs to increase lobster habitat; improved water quality; safer, more accessible beaches; and assured bypassing of littoral drift sand.
- Engineering details outlined in our technical CD regarding water and waste recycling.
- BESST© (Biologically Engineered Single Sludge Treatment) process offers "State of the Art" Advanced Wastewater Treatment.
- Botanical nursery to replant trees and flora to store and reuse elsewhere.
- Goal is to get LEED certified. The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green building Rating System™ is a third-party certification program and the nationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction and operation of high performance green buildings.
